Our Community
The Greater Shady Grove Civic Alliance is concerned about social and
government
events that impact our residents. Our Communities span the Shady Grove
Metro
area, including Candlewood, Cashell Estates, Derwood Station,
Mill Creek Towne, Needwood Estates, Old Derwood, Park Overlook,
Parkside
Estates, Washington Grove, Amity Drive and greater Derwood
neighborhoods. This
includes areas in three Montgomery County Master Plans: Shady
Grove,
Unincorporated Gaithersburg, and Upper Rock Creek.
"We need vigilance here
to take our concerns before elected officials because we don't have a
mayor, and I think...a lot of things have been dumped here by Rockville
and Gaithersburg."
— Pat Labuda, Alliance
President, to the Gaithersburg Gazette

Our Mission
The objective (mission) of the Alliance is to educate and inform the
citizens of the Greater Shady Grove area on matters of public concern
and to act on matters of common interest in a manner consistent with
positions approved by the membership.
(By-Laws of the Alliance)

Here are
some examples of issues and activities we have worked on in the past
few years:
 |
Providing input to and
monitoring development of the Shady Grove Sector Plan focused on the
Shady Grove Metro and Crabbs Branch Way areas. |
 |
Working with the county
and state officials on the ICC, Shady Grove Road sound barriers, and
Redland Road expansion. |
 |
Holding forums with public
officials and state legislators on topics affecting the community
including school overcrowding, traffic, Metro, housing,
streetscape, and more. |
 |
Keeping the community
apprised of issues and events through our monthly e-mails. |
 |
Host candidate forums for
county elections. |
 |
Annual forum with
state legislators to report on results of the legislative session |
