Greater Shady Grove Civic Alliance
Meeting: Wednesday May 27,
2009 8:00pm
Mill Creek Towne Elementary School,
17700 Park Mill Drive, in the All Purpose Room
Topic: Laytonia Park and other
Neighborhood issues
At the May meeting of the Greater Shady Grove Civic Alliance there
will be a presentation on the status of Laytonia Park. Laytonia
Park is planned for the corner of Shady Grove and Muncaster Mill Road.
Kim Paniati from Park and Planning will be coming to show the community
what is being planned for the park, including ball fields and
other community uses. She will provide a timetable for the Park's
implementation. We will also have Ernie Lansford from the County who
will discuss the plan for the animal shelter which is scheduled to be
placed on a part of the Laytonia Park property.
Additional Community Concerns
Other issues of concern within the community can also be raised at
the meeting.
A recent letter from a community member raised two concerns
with road problems in our community. Below is a copy of the letter that
was sent:
I am concerned about two traffic problems in our community.
First, it the dangerous bypass from the exit ramp from 370
leaving Shady Grove metro station, adjacent to our community, to Shady
Grove Road going East. The road was fine before the
Transportation Department changed the road. It is presently far too
sharp a turn for the driver exiting 370 to see oncoming traffic on
Shady Grove Road. Almost every day there is nearly an accident,
especially at Rush hour. Please review this situation and return the
road to a more gradual turn exiting 370.
Second, the road needs to be widened at the intersection
of Needwood Road and Muncaster Mill Road. All the metro traffic
and traffic going to Magruder High School is unable to negotiate this
turn because there is no right turn lane at this intersection. As
a result, tremendous bottlenecks occur with traffic and the traffic
backup a long distance. Any car that plans to turn left to go to Bowie
Mill road and to go left on Muncaster Mill road stops all traffic from
turning right onto Muncaster mill road.
Would you please review these traffic problems and let our
community know about progress on these items? Thank you in advance for
you help.
An additional traffic concern is the red light that has been
placed on Muncaster Mill Road at Redland which no longer allows you to
turn left on green unless you have a green arrow. This greatly
increases the time it takes to make it through the intersection.
If you have other concerns with traffic or other
issues in the community please feel free to raise them at the
meeting.
